How do i make an "overhead door" garage opener work?

hello world, so im on a mission my dad is paying me 50$ for me to make the garge opener work the thing is that a couple months back he was trying to open it so he could put the battery in and he broke a part but has nothing to do with the opening part :) so how do i like program it? thanks xoxox lizzy
