Buying a contract phone online helpppp!!!!!!?

hi i was just wondering wats better buying a contract online from well known companys like vodafone,02, virgin etc or just going in store and buying there. Also when u buy a contract and the phone how does it come in the post dose it come with the contract sim im confused thanks for viewing
